A practicing lawyer in Owerri, Imo State, Barrister Akaonye Jude Onuoha, has reportedly been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in a shocking incident that has heightened concerns over insecurity in the area.
The abduction, which occurred on August 15, 2023, took place at the victim’s office during working hours, sending panic through the neighborhood and raising fresh fears among residents and professionals in the state capital.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the attackers, numbering about five and heavily armed, stormed the premises in a commando-style operation. The assailants reportedly overpowered everyone in sight before seizing the lawyer and dragging him out of his office.
According to one of the eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived in a blue Toyota Highlander Jeep and executed the operation with precision and speed.
“They came in suddenly, all armed to the teeth. Before anyone could react, they forced him into their vehicle and sped off to an unknown destination,” the source narrated.
The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for improved security measures, particularly for professionals who are increasingly becoming targets of criminal activities.
