Ahead of the 2027 general election, a frontline governorship aspirant in Imo State Chief Success Akagburuonye has urged the people of the state to support candidates with verifiable records of achievements and commitment to the development of their communities and the state.
Akagburuonye made the call while speaking as a guest at the Mega Summit on Leadership and Governance, organised by AG Professionals of Owerri District, an umbrella body of men and women from various professions and vocations committed to deploying their skills in the service of God and the Assemblies of God Church.
The summit, with the theme, “AG Nigeria and the Mandate of Governance,” was held in Owerri and attracted a large turnout of dignitaries and participants.
Chief Akagburuonye encouraged Christians to actively participate in politics and support candidates who fear God and are committed to serving the people.
He expressed confidence that the Charter of Equity would favour Owerri Zone.
The governorship aspirant said his interest in contesting the position was driven by his desire to change the narrative and consolidate the achievements of the present administration.
He cited his recent donation of medical equipment worth over seven million dollars to the Imo State Government as part of his contribution towards addressing healthcare needs in the state.
Akagburuonye also recounted his experience with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where he said he stood trial for 20 years before eventually emerging victorious.
According to him, the experience drew him closer to God and contributed to his efforts towards mitigating stringent bail conditions in Nigeria.
Chief Akagburuonye was later honoured with a Platinum Leadership Award by AG Professionals, Owerri District, in recognition of his commitment to Kingdom investment and leadership qualities.
Also speaking, former Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, lamented the level of corruption in the country and urged Christians to use their Permanent Voter Cards to effect positive change in the forthcoming election.
Dr. Egwu advised those interested in politics to contest for elective positions with the primary intention of serving the people.
The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Reverend Abel Amadi reaffirmed the church’s support for candidates seeking various elective positions and prayed that God would grant them their heart’s desires.
Earlier, the President of AG Professionals, Owerri District, Mr. Herbert Njoku, explained that the summit was organised to enlighten members of the church on the need to support members seeking elective positions and work towards their success.
