The body of late Lady Veronica Ngalasi Igwe has been laid to rest in her compound at Umuonyeoka, Ihitteafoukwu, in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.
The burial, which took place on Friday, July 24, 2026, was well attended by family members, friends, and well-wishers.
In an interview, the first son of the deceased, Dr. Leo Igwe, said his mother was very generous and easy-going.
“She encouraged and celebrated with her children on attaining various landmarks in their lives,” Igwe added, noting that she was a mother like no other.
Igwe, who coordinates Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AFAW), a human rights organization that works to protect vulnerable people such as women, children, and people with disabilities who face false accusations of witchcraft, abuse, and mob violence in Nigeria and across Africa, described his mother as a resilient lover of education who believed that through education, doors of opportunity would be opened, prejudices would be eliminated, and people would become empowered and employable.
He said her little savings were invested in her children and promised to carry on with the family legacy to ensure the family continues to be resourceful in the community and to humanity.
Reflecting on the life and times of her mother, the daughter of the deceased, Dr. Assumpta Ude, said her mother’s life was defined by unwavering resilience in the face of intense opposition.
She added that her late mother faced various health, financial and socio-cultural challenges in her lifetime.
“Despite living in a toxic environment of oppression and blackmail, my mother lived an extraordinary life of faith, fortitude, and selfless devotion that has touched countless hearts.”
She continued, “My mother was a special kind of woman. She was resilient, energetic and content. She gave her love freely and always sought ways to bring her family together.”
Earlier, in his sermon, Pastor Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, while explaining the reality of life on earth, said nobody truly dies and that life on earth is short compared to eternity, as well as the sudden transition from this life to another.
Consoling the Igwe family, Pastor Ukaegbu thanked God for blessing late Veronica Igwe with a long life and urged the family to bear the loss with courage and fortitude.
Aged 86, Lady Igwe is survived by her sons, daughter, grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.
