Member-elect for Owerri Federal Constituency (Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West), Hon Tochukwu Okere, weekend, held a townhall meeting with the people of the area, with a reassurance to sustain it and fulfill all his campaign promises.

The meeting which held at the Jubilee Hall of Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, the Imo State capital, had in attendance; traditional rulers, president generals, youth organizations, community leaders among others.

Okere, at the parley, hinted that having such interactions at intervals would enable him make laws and motions that will directly affect the people of the federal constituency and as well, attract projects mostly needed by the people.

He stressed that the opinion of his constituents, their expectations and collective desires during such interactions will form the central essence of his legislative targets in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly.

Okere who was elected on the platform of Labour Party, said the people of the federal constituency would form the nucleus of his legislative representation and oversight functions, as he has no political godfather to share their largesse with.

He promised not to disappoint them.

“You elected me as your Legislator primarily to make laws, carry out oversight functions, attract as many dividends of democracy as possible, among others. I promise never to fail you.”

Okere, a former banker, urged them to identify three projects considered most pressing needs of their various communities and promised to push for its actualization, if within the purview, scope or coverage of federal government.

Whilst promising that every part of the federal constituency must feel the positive presence of the federal government within four years of his legislative service, Okere insisted that he will operate a tripartite constituency office to enable him render deserved services to the people.

He reassured that all towns and communities hosting any federal institution would enjoy steady corporate social responsibility and also announced a robust employment scheme for young graduates and skillful men and women of the federal constituency.

The event was well attended by the high and mighty in the federal constituency and featured cross fertilization of ideas among the participants.
