Owerri Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Men Organization on Wednesday 29th January 2025 disbursed 35,000 naira each for Senior Secondary Council Examination (SSCE) fees to 50 brilliant indigent students of their members.

The President of Owerri Archdiocesan Catholic Men Organization Mr Kelechi Darlington Eke JP while speaking with Journalists noted that the beneficiaries of the largesse were selected across the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese involving over 200 parishes stressing that the money covers their examination fees and some stipulated text books to help them excel in their examination.

According to him, ” it is good to note that we started this project last year 2024 at the assumption of our administration, we gave WAEC money for 40 students but this year we have increased to 50 and today a total of 2 million naira have been disbursed.

“This is the beginning of our relationship with these students, by the grace of God 87 percent of our beneficiaries last year came out with flying colours and we have been following up with their academic pursuit whereas our intention is to use our platform as CMO members to evangelize. The church also contributes to the society and we know the current situation in our country today hence this is our little contribution to support families of our members who cannot afford to pay WAEC fees for their children”, he said.

Mr Eke also charged the beneficiaries to play their own role as children in their families and society by eschewing violence and other vices that could impact negatively on their carrier saying that the organization is looking forward to sponsor education for those who performed excellently in the near future.
