The Founder of Imo State Citizens Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG) and National Convener of Coalition of Niger Delta Christian Women Assembly (CONDCWA) is calling on the good and prosperous people of Imo State to “think Imo First” to ensure peaceful resolutions to conflict situations, attract economic prosperity and ensure political development is achieved in the State.
She made the call during the flag off of Operation “THINK IMO FIRST” by Higher Grounds Development and Leadership Foundation (HIGDALF) recently, after a Church service to celebrate the unity in diversity of Nigeria.
“A lot has happened in the past. Several costly and avoidable mistakes made and so many conflict situations that have led to the avoidable destruction of lives and properties in Imo State.
“Now the election is lost and won, it is time for us all to rise up, gird our loins as men and women of progress and chart a new frontier for the sustainable development of Imo State and this to a reasonable extent will be achieved through the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“This is an integral means to achieve peace and stop the sit at home order that is gradually crippling the economy of the South east and it is to our collective detriment of Ndi-Igbo worldwide”, Dr. Akwaja submitted.
She therefore congratulated His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma on his victory at the polls on Saturday 11th November, 2023.
“Ala-Igbo will not forget you if you ensure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as you also called for a State-wide Peace Summit, where all issues of the State were constructively discussed, apologies tendered, prayers made, solutions proffered and a way forward was charted for the healing of the land and the aggrieved.”
She also sued for the achievement of 35% affirmative action for women participation in the state leadership.
“We thank His Excellency for choosing a woman as his Deputy and an experienced woman for a ministerial portfolio, but we still call for more actions in choosing commissioners and other top leadership positions like chairman of boards, agencies and parastatals.”
She stressed that women have zero representation in the State House of Assembly and few in the Senate and the Federal House of Representatives.
“We have women who are seasoned professionals and are ready to ensure the State works on auto-run if given the opportunity to serve, ranging from Finance, Works, Education, Legal, Military, Industry, Commerce and Youths development as women are naturally built to nurture, endure, be patient and build for prosperity.”
“Imo State needs peace and economic development at all cost and as a second term Governor in the South East, an APC Stalwart and the Chief Executive Officer of Imo State, we call upon your Excellency to use every means within your power to achieve peace in all the zones that makes up Imo and focus on developing entrepreneurial and educational skills among our teaming youths, empower our women, ensure free education from Primary to Secondary educational level, pay our pensioners, grant amnesty to all warring sides and make Imo State great again. Give Imo women this chance to lead and we will not fail you and our beloved State”, Akwaja concluded.
