Labour Party candidate for the November 11 Imo State Governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu says he joined the gubernatorial race to remove the incumbent governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma from the seat.
Achonu, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen shortly after the unveiling of his running mate, Tony Nwulu, also claimed that the people of the state want to be rescued and now see him as a beacon of hope.
The LP guber candidate was optimistic that even members of other political parties including the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party would support him to remove the incumbent governor.
He however, advised the electorate to protect their booths and results during the election and leave the rest for him.
On his deputy, Achonu said the choice of Tony Nwulu was to blend the ticket between the old and young, adding that the battle is for the survival of the younger generation, who have become an existential threat of sort.
He described Nwulu as a vibrant young man, humanist and patriot.
Nwulu, on his part, promised that the Labour Party government will wipe away the tears of Imo people by liberating the state from the stronghold of those who want the citizens dead.
“The only sector that is thriving in Imo is insecurity”, Nwulu said while recalling that Imo used to be the pride of Nigeria for its hospitality.
