Late Dr Oguh championed most agricultural programmes in Imo Polytechnic – Dr. Okoro remembers deceased lecturer

Dr. Chijioke Nwankwo Okoro JP, a lecturer at Imo State Polytechnic, Omuma, has attributed the development of most of the agricultural programmes in Imo State Polytechnic to the efforts of late Dr. E.E. Oguh.
Okoro disclosed this during a memorial lecture, presentation and launching of Book of Readings organized in honour and memory of Dr. Oguh, former Rector of the institution, in Owerri last week.
Going down memory lane, Okoro said he met Dr. Oguh when he came into the institution in 2008, disclosing that he (Oguh) was then the deputy rector of the institution.
According to him, Dr. Oguh championed the development of most of the agricultural programmes in the institution.
“You can’t talk about the Nursery, Horticulture and Plantation in Imo State Polytechnic without mentioning his name”, Okoro added.
Okoro, who is the Chairman, Planning Committee of the programme, commended the family for floating a foundation in honour of the deceased, noting that the foundation was part of late Oguh’s desire to helping the indigent populace of the society.
The testimony from Ehime Mbano where he hails from, according to Dr. Okoro, is that a lot of farmers had been benefiting input supply in the agricultural practices from Dr. Oguh when he was alive.
The lecturer however lamented the failed agricultural programmes of the government, which he said, were fantastic but none worked, as according to him, most of the programmes died with the exit of the government that introduced them.
He suggested an ongoing policy statement, such that good policies and programmes that have been introduced by government should be sustained until the objectives are achieved.
Engr. Obinna Oguh, first son to the deceased, had while reading the father’s biography, recalled his extraordinary love for his family, personal sacrifices and investment in other people.
Engr Obinna said, his father lived his life for others and paid less attention to his personal concerns and wellbeing and however thanked his guests for their efforts towards ensuring the success of the event.
The book reviewer, Prof. EU Onweremadu, remarked that the deceased made remarkable imprints in the lives of people, and enjoined the living to serve God by serving humanity, so that they could be remembered after their exit from this planet.
The event, which held in Owerri, the Imo State capital, witnessed large turnout of dignitaries from all walks of life.
