Next year, Nigerians will head to the polls to elect new crop of leaders that will man the affairs of the nation for the next four years.
From the presidency to governorship, national and states house of assembly, candidates of various political parties are making frantic efforts to woo supporters to their side.
They are already gearing up for the election, selling their manifestos to the electorate at all cost.
Majority of them have resorted to making promises they know very well they won’t fulfil even when everything needed to fulfil those promises are within their beck and call. But sheer covetousness wouldn’t allow them to serve the people whom they swore to protect.
As many pundits have opined, the success of next year’s election will be largely determined by how secured and safe the electorate feel to the point of braving up to participate in the election.
For the sake of emphasis, only the living can vote. The dead cannot vote.
With the current wave of insecurity ravaging the entire nation, citizens need no soothsayer to tell them that nobody is safe in the country again.
We, in the Nigerian Newsguide, envisage a voter apathy among other factors, that could mar the election, hence the need for all and sundry, particularly, security agencies to up their game and nip in the bud the root causes of the present security threats across the nation.
We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari to summon all the Service Chiefs to a meeting and brainstorm on how best to solve the nation’s security challenges before February next year.
It is not enough to boast of providing the electoral umpire, INEC with everything they would need to prosecute the 2023 election, given the fact that without securing INEC materials both sensitive and non-sensitive, as well as personnel on election duty, Nigeria of our dream would remain a mirage for another four years.
