Appeal Court orders rerun within 20 days

The Court of Appeal in Owerri on Friday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh primary election for Ohaji-Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency within 20 days.
The three-man bench unanimously gave a detailed judgement in favour of Ngozi RBK Okafor, aspirant for the federal constituency on the platform of All Progressives Congress.
Ngozi had earlier approached a Federal High Court sitting in Owerri in protest to the shenanigans that happened during the purported APC primary election for the federal constituency that declared one Eugene Dibiagwu as the “winner”.
Not satisfied with the verdict of the Federal High Court, Ngozi approached the Court of Appeal and the Panel saw merit in her case and ordered for a fresh rerun within 20 days.
In a chat with newsmen, Ngozi’s attorney, Barr. Ogujiofor Anaele said his client had 12 grounds of Appeal against the ruling of the Federal High Court.
According to him, “the court of appeal considered adequately and gave a detailed judgment yesterday, and ordered for a rerun within 20 days.”
Barr Ogujiofor advised the party to do the right thing by obeying the court order, and added that people should learn to do things that will promote justice and peace.
“In as much as the political parties will have a discretion to a choice, let the people be part of that decision. Let members of the party be part of the decision. People want to vote for leaders of their choice, not people who are imposed on them”, he advised.
Reacting to the judgement, an elated Ngozi RBK Okafor, said she felt vindicated.
“I am overjoyed and I feel vindicated. I am extremely grateful to the Justices and this judgment has further reinforced my belief that our legal system does indeed work.”
She expressed her gratitude to the party leadership and hoped that they will abide by the judgment of the court and organize for new primaries within 20 days.
Ngozi also thanked Governor Hope Uzodimma for not interfering on the matter.
“I am grateful to Governor Hope Uzodimma, the leader of our party in Imo State, for allowing the system to work the way it intended. He has allowed us play out our grievances in court and now that the court has given judgment, am sure he will follow through and allow the people to select who their representative ought to be.”
Ngozi also applauded the Governor for energizing the people of the State through aggressive developmental projects that have bearing with the yearnings and aspirations of the people and urged him not to lose focus and shun anything that will distract him.
