A prominent philanthropist and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Success Akagburuonye, has been widely commended for sponsoring and completing the building of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish at Ogbor Uvuru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The newly constructed church was formally opened and dedicated by the Catholic Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, the Right Reverend Simeon Nwobi, in a ceremony attended by clergy, community leaders and faithful.
Speaking at the event, Chief Akagburuonye attributed the successful completion of the project to divine grace, describing his contribution as part of his commitment to advancing God’s kingdom. He noted that his life’s blessings are rooted in consistent investment in the work of God, urging Christians to embrace generosity and faith as pathways to spiritual and material growth.
Flanked by his wife, Mrs. Cecilia Akagburuonye, and his son, Dr. Prestige, the philanthropist expressed appreciation to the Church for the opportunity to serve, reaffirming his dedication to supporting religious and community development initiatives.
Chief Akagburuonye, who is also the National President of Hoperising for Imolites, encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in their commitment to God, assuring them of continued support towards the growth of the Church.
In his remarks, Bishop Simeon Nwobi lauded Chief Akagburuonye for his exceptional generosity and pivotal role in delivering the project. He also commended other contributors and urged parishioners to ensure proper maintenance of the facility. The Bishop later presented a special gift to Chief Akagburuonye in recognition of his contributions.
Earlier, the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Henry Eke, alongside Reverend Father Franklin Uboegbulem, who delivered the sermon, emphasized the importance of prioritizing God in personal and communal life. They noted that societies thrive when they invest in spiritual development, including the building of places of worship.
Also speaking, social activist Mr. Charles Oputa (popularly known as Charley Boy) and Dr. Prestige commended Chief Akagburuonye’s philanthropic gesture and made additional donations to support the Church.
The ceremony featured the official handover of the church keys to the Parish Priest and the blessing of the tabernacle.
