The Deputy Minority Leader and Member representing Owerri Municipal Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Clinton Amadi has called for the account of funds appropriated for Umuchima gully erosion and Akokwa-Uga road  project in Ideato South Local Government Area between 2011-2019.

Amadi had opposed the motion raised by his Ideato South counterpart, Hon Johnson Duru, at the floor of the House, seeking urgent intervention to save the people of Ideato from gully erosion owing to the deplorable condition of the roads.

The motion had the support of some members of the House including Hon Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West) who in his submission, recalled that the past administration claimed to have spent billions of naira on the said road between 2011-2019.

Amadi  had argued that if funds were appropriated for the construction of the road and the gully erosion between 2011-2019, the House should equally seek answers as to why the road collapsed, even as he sympathized with the people of Ideato on their plight.

“We sympathize with the people of Ideato because of what they are going through, but a governor had come to this state who is from Ideato Nation, and  from the submission of my friend, Dominic Ezerioha, funds were appropriated for the road between 2011-2019.

“So it’s better we look at what happened then, why the roads collapsed again, the contractors that were awarded those contracts, did they actually go to the site or the funds taken away. We have to look at the past to face the future. That is why I dissented to that motion, not because I don’t like Ideato Nation. If funds were appropriated for those roads and erosion sites, it should be looked into because this is public fund. We are all parliamentarians, we are here to do checks and balances.”

However, the House resolved to pay a visit to the site.
