National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP), Imo State Command has rescued an eleven year old girl, simply identified as Esther.

Esther lives with her guardian at Alpha Lodge, Umuanunu Obinze, Owerri West Council Area.

Until succor came her way, Esther was a victim of child labour, maltreatment and all sorts of physical and emotional abuse.

A good samaritan reported Esther’s guardian to Honourbirth Foundation, a non-governmental organization that fights for the rights of women and girls, vulnerable children, widows and orphans.

In line with the organization’s mandate, Honourbirth Foundation partnered with NAPTIP to rescue the 11 year old.

Information from neighbours revealed that whenever Esther does not meet up with the guardian’s demands, she hits her with iron and broken plates, which oftentimes leaves a mark on her face and head.

Esther who is said to be out of school currently, has not been feeding well and neighbours confessed to have seen her countless times, picking food from waste dumpsites.

A combined team of NAPTIP and operatives of Nigeria Society and Civil Defence Corps, on Monday, rescued Esther and also arrested her guardian.
