Amidst speculations that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu attended the burial of late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on Friday 1st November, 2024 in a black Toyota Prado Jeep and a Toyota Coaster bus load of about forty members of IPOB, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu has made clarifications on the matter.
In an interview with National Newsblast Newspaper investigative reporter who cornered Kanu, his wife, and two traditional rulers from Afara Ukwu Ancient Kingdom of Abia State at the residence of Iwuanyanwu’s only surviving sibling, Chief Eddy Iwuanyanwu which shares a wall with Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s mansion, the younger Kanu who looks so much like his elder brother and was mistaken for him by many guests at the burial, opened up.
Prince Emmanuel who also bared his mind on the current situation of his brother’s continued detention, explained the reason for the condolence visit.
“Iwuanyanwu is highly respected in Igbo land, Nigeria and the whole world. He stands for truth, equity, fairness and justice. And of course, before his passing, he made it clear to this administration and even the last one, that his desire was to have his son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu released from detention. Funny enough, during his visit to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Department of State Services, I was there present with him. He told me something. He said, my desire is to go and see Nnamdi Kanu. Even if I die the next day, it will not bother me.
“He is a man that is highly respected and so the family needs to be here. I need to be here to pay the last respect to him. I did not come alone. I came with my wife, Princess Kanu and the two kings of Afara Ukwu Ancient Kingdom of Abia State in the names of HRH Eze Edward Ibeabuchi and HRH Eze P. Ukaegbu.
On his take on his brother’s continued detention, Kanu replied, “Of course, you and I know that the detention of my brother is highly illegal. It remains illegal. You and I know the truth. And of course, after his last appearance in court on the 24th of last month, it became extremely difficult to see him till legal pressure was applied and back door talks took place that finally paved the way for us to see him. But you and I know the truth. Nnamdi Kanu has done nothing bad against the law. What is happening is intimidation, suppression of course.
Like he said in the court that this whole conspiracy against Ndigbo ends with him and that’s where we stand. We know that legally, even in the next hundred years, Nnamdi Kanu will not be moved. The best solution is to sit him down and have a discussion with him.
That’s the best solution”On how soon the solution is expected, Kanu said, “It is entirely up to the power that be. But you and I know that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not in a hurry. He wants to get things done right. The longer they keep him, the more heroic he becomes.
He told me once that why it is important that he comes out is to be able to curtail the agitators so as not to become more militant. He knows this thing more than any other person”
