Vice Chancellor Imo State University, Professor UU Chukwumaeze, SAN FCArb, claims the university prioritizes research and community service.

The VC, who made the disclosure during the 8th convocation ceremony of the institution, also added that the institution has a proud tradition of recruiting world class academics as lecturers.

He promised to entrench the tradition of excellence and launch the university to greater international visibility.

Prof Chukwumaeze assured that the institution will further collaborate with industries within and outside the state to channel the researches of academics towards finding solutions to peculiar Nigeria problems and play crucial roles in the development of Nigerian solutions to general challenges of humankind.

The VC congratulated the graduands for going through the crucible and had been found worthy in character and in learning, so are eligible to earn the highly prized degrees and certificates of the university.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria commended the state government and TETFUND for continually upgrading the infrastructure needed to achieve academic excellence and called on all Imo Stars to assume greater responsibility for the development of the University.

He expressed gratitude to the Governor for his abiding interest in the affairs of the University, generous funding of its projects, regular payment of salaries and many other sundry gestures aimed at transforming the University to a world class university.

Lamenting the challenges, the VC said the institution needs more hostels on campus to ensure that many more of the students are secure and also to save those who live outside the campus from the sharp axes of shylock landlords.

“There are critical gaps in our library holdings of current books and periodicals just as the facilities in some of our laboratories could do with some upgrading. We need professorial chairs endowed for them to become active and many more prizes to challenge our students to reach the peak of their intellectual potentials”, the VC appealed.

Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, at the occasion, commended the Vice Chancellor and his management team and staff for their spirited efforts at keeping the lofty dreams of the university alive.
