The traditional ruler of Olaukwu Autonomous Community, Owerri West Council Area of Imo State, Eze Apollo Ekeocha has commended Honourbirth Foundation for impacting the lives of women in Olaukwu.
Eze Apollo gave the commendation in a special interview with newsmen on the occasion of the 2023 International Women’s Day.
The monarch was particular about female genital mutilation, which he said, is no longer practiced in the community following the intervention by Honourbirth Foundation.
Eze Apollo, said FGM was rampant in the community until Honourbirth Foundation waded in and educated the women on the dangers of such practice, leading to its elimination.
The Olaoma 1 of Olaukwu equally commended Honourbirth Foundation for introducing new but excellent approach towards tackling gender based violence, which he confessed, has drastically reduced in the community.
He also appreciated Honourbirth Foundation for the training, retraining and empowerment of women of the community, whilst assuring of his support at all times.
The Uk-trained Engineer also relished some of his achievements since his coronation, saying that Olaukwu community, carved out of Oforola about 12 years ago, is peaceful and has seen progress under his rulership.
Ezekwe Kevin, the Public Relations Officer, Opi Response Community in Olaukwu Community said the ActionAid Project on eradication of violence against women and girls and harmful traditional norms, implemented by Honourbirth foundation brought a great reformation in the community.
Ezekwe popularly known as Baba said before women in the community were relegated to the background and usually suffer untold hardship in the hands of their male partners until Honourbirth foundation brought the project to the community.
He also appreciated the monarch for supporting them even as he said that women in the community are now in joyful mood, courtesy of Honourbirth Foundation.
In her brief remark, the Executive Director, Honourbirth Foundation, Mrs Elizabeth Onyemaechi urged women to seize the occasion and embrace technology, which according to her is crucial to advancing their right and gender equality.
